For everyone who feels the need to catch up with computers and technology, but not having enough capital to buy one, buying a used laptop may be the only answer. Refurbished laptops are those computers that are not in use or sent back to the shop for one of many reasons. Some people, once they have bought their computer, will realize that they have bought the wrong one. That is, they simple change their minds so they do not need it. Others will find a minor problem with it and will be so disappointed that they will decide to buy something something a little different.

Very often, these computers will be simply not suitable for the purpose that they were bought for. The company will take them apart, check out all the systems, put in some new parts They will not be allowed to sell them as new machines because this is not a true description. Of course, they may have some slight marks or dents on the outside, but as long as they have been checked over properly, they can be utilized in many different circumstances. This is a great way, for those with little cash to spare, to upgrade from their current computer to one that is perhaps on the next level; Pentium three up to Pentium four for example. Different kinds of people will know that this is the only way that they will be able to afford a higher grade computer than they already have. Those who have a desk top computer may well want to get a mobile computer to facilitate their work or college way of life. Again, by going for the second hand, refreshed versions, there is a huge potential for saving money here.

Because of the every increasing urgency in our way of doing things, a lot of technophobes will insist on having the latest gadgets as early as possible. Anything new that hits the scene, with relation to computers and other peripherals, will be a definite must have for those who just love computers and all that they can do. Instead of just dumping the old machine, some will put them in as part exchange to shops who will check them out before reselling them.

Others will donate their old computers to schools or to groups which will be a huge boost for them because they do not have funds to buy them. Large conglomerates will often upgrade their computers every couple of years. They really do not sell their old computers so sometimes they find a worthy cause to send them to, perhaps to third world countries. This is a wonderful idea since those people will rarely be able to find the means to buy them. However, this is also good for the green movement.

What many people do not realize is that plastics will be with us for a very long time. At least by donating these computers, or getting them refreshed and repaired, the amount of waste created is kept to a minimum. This not only saves on the money spent to send them to landfill sites, it also helps the world and all who live in it.

If you are contemplating of purchasing a laptop but are being deterred by budget constraints, there is a solution. Did uou consider buying a used laptop or a refurbished laptop? There are no two ways about the fact that a new unit if the best option for those who have the means. The primary aim of buying pre-owned units is saving money. However, this objective cannot be achieved if the buyer does not make an informed purchase. Regardless of the sum you are parting with, it is essential that the product you are getting is worth its price tag. If the price is not justified, you are in for a poor bargain and your decision to buy an old laptop may be wrong.

In order to make a wise and judicious purchase, there are quite a few things you will need to find out. First, see to it that you do your homework well. It involves researching which laptops are on the market and the availability. Compare and contrast one product against another in order to pick the best ones. The Internet can be very useful, as there are several websites that have provision for comparison. Pick the stores that you think will offer you the best laptops at affordable prices. It is a good idea to purchase refurbished pre-owned laptops from their original manufacturers.

Refurbished models come with a big advantage, especially so if you are purchasing directly from the manufacturer. When a unit is sent for refurbishing, each part is tested separately and verified for proper performance. Non-conformity to set standards of performance entails the part to be replaced. This procedure leads to a laptop assemblage whose performance is as good as new. All the same, this does not allow the manufacturer to sell the unit for the cost of a new laptop. Rather, he will need to offer a substantive discount on the laptop. The fact that the buyer is gaining from the deal goes without saying. What are the features that you must verify before purchasing the used product? There are various aspects of the unit that you need to scrutinize before finalizing the deal. Check the memory size, the size of the hard disk, the speed and type of the processor, the drives that come with the unit, wireless feature, and so on an so forth. You must also find out the date of manufacturing. If the laptop is extremely old, it may be too outmoded for your use, thereby making your purchase a waste.

There are two more important features that you need to assess prior to the purchase of the old laptop. The main advantage of a laptop is its mobility. There are two features which we are referring to enhance the mobility of the laptop. The first is its weight and the second is the status of its battery. Ensure that the weight of the laptop is suitable for you to move around with and handle. A heavy laptop may be burdensome. When you are travelling, it is important that the battery offers a backup that will support the laptop throughout the trip. Hence, ensure that the battery is in good condition.

After you have picked out the pre-owned laptop you wish to buy, ensure that all the accessories, peripherals and warranty are intact. Also, ensure that you are being handed over the laptop you actually picked. With a little care, you will be able to buy an old laptop that can last you for many years.

When considering the purchase of a new computer, Dave decided it may be wise to check into a pre-owned one. Dave actually was in the market for a used laptop and discovered a lot were available for purchase at very reasonable prices. He soon discovered that many of these were merely offered as they were and might consist of equipment that would not have much of a shelf life left. Dave really did his research and found that there are now companies that exist who are in the business of leasing computer equipment to large corporations and this leasing usually includes routine maintenance and timely upgrades. At the end of the lease a lot of these same corporations choose to enter a new agreement that includes new equipment so that they can maintain state-of-the-art technology at all times. That means that the previously held computers are returned to the leasing company where they are usually offered for sale to someone who is looking for a great deal and are thinking of buying a second-hand computer.

When considering the purchase of a new computer, Dave determined it might be prudent to investigate a second-hand product. Dave actually was in the market for a used laptop and discovered a lot were available for purchase at very reasonable prices. He soon discovered that many of these were simply sold "as is" and could include equipment that would not have much of a shelf life left. Dave investigated and discovered that there are now companies that exist who are in the business of leasing computer equipment to large corporations and this leasing usually includes routine maintenance and timely upgrades. At the end of the lease a lot of these same corporations decide to sign a fresh contract that includes new equipment so that they can maintain state-of-the-art technology at all times. That means that the previously held computers are returned to the leasing company where they are usually offered for sale to someone who is looking for a great deal and are thinking of buying a second-hand computer. These companies offered much more peace of mind to Dave and he decided to eventually buy a refurbished laptop that suited him perfectly. Following are the four main influences in the decision that Dave made:

1. He found out that each and every previously owned notebook computer this company sold was subject to a comprehensive inspection. This check-up included a thorough cleaning and an evaluation that diagnosed any defects the machine might have. He discovered that each processor that was returned to the leasing company was given a once-over to examine the CPU, the memory, and the hard drive.

2. At the time of the inspection any defective part on the notebook computer was either repaired or replaced making certain the purchaser would get a machine that was in good working order. Buying something that he knew would be delivered almost brand new carried a lot of weight with Dave. He felt it was worth a little extra money for that reassurance and it was still a long way from the price of a new one.

3. Dave also found out that this company was willing to work with him, find out what his computer needs were and then do the upgrading to make it customized to fit his requirements. For instance, he asked them to install extra memory and he wanted state-of-the-art video and audio cards as well. He found this much to his liking and felt he was receiving great customer service.

4. The main selling point though was the fact that he was able to obtain a service contract on anything that went wrong with the notebook computer for one full year. In his mind, Dave felt this was more than enough assurance that he decided made it on a level playing field with buying a new one. He knew that an individual would not be able to make available a guarantee such as that and he determined that the company he was dealing with had confidence in their product and the repair work that had been done on his pre-owned notebook computer.

Even with bad credit, you can get a laptop with bad credit or figure out a way to buy one if you have bad credit. There are some lenders who now specialize in credit to provide laptops to people with bad credit. Many of these lenders though will basically be selling you a laptop on time, with large payments and up front fees. This also extends to netbooks and desktop systems, as well. These might be hard to find today in this economy, especially if you're looking for laptops for bankrupt people, or other people with really bad credit.

When you get a laptop with bad credit, however, don't expect to get financing from large retailers like Best Buy or through laptop manufacturers like Dell laptops or HP. Their financing companies are only set up to work with people with good credit. However there are some good deals out there for financing laptops with bad credit.

Be sure to check the terms you are offered though to decide if it is worth buying. Expect to pay more for the equipment itself (you may have to buy through certain authorized dealers); expect to pay higher interest rates, and possibly other signing fees and prepayment fees as well. In some cases you may be paying significantly higher than you can afford!

Another option to getting laptop financing with bad credit is to get a bad credit card card, and purchase a laptop with the card. Some credit card deals are reasonable, and could be less than you are paying to get a laptop with bad credit. Even with a small credit card balance, in the range of $300 to $500, there are desktop laptop deals now that can get you a laptop within that price range.

Here's another option though: Considering you can find really cheap laptops and netbooks, under $400, why not find a part time job to pay for it? Picking up some extra work, even at minimum wage, means that within a couple weeks you can have your new laptop even with bad credit. Or, sell something else you have, using eBay or Craigslist or some other service, where you can get rid of an old computer, video games, DVDs, old appliances or just about anything else to raise some extra cash. You can also find used laptops on eBay and on Craigslist that will save you even more. And if you go for a desktop, the prices are way lower than laptop and netbook prices. Shop around, look for used or refurbished, and save money. You'll be able to take advantage of falling prices and buy your laptop on credit in no time!

Want to buy a laptop and searching for a great price? Consider a refurbished laptop. You can find an excellent system, completely rebuilt and nearly new, and save 30-50% on the price of a new laptop.

More laptops are coming on the market as corporate IT departments upgrade their leased equipment each year. The laptops that go off lease are often sold to refurbishing shops, where the computer goes through a thorough check, and repairs are made if needed, along with upgrades to parts like memory, CD-ROM drives and operating systems. The refurbishing company then resells the refurbished laptop either direct or through online auctions like eBay. You can find a great deal if you know what to look for.

The key questions to ask when looking at a refurbished laptop are how old the laptop is, which will give you a clue as to how old the hard drive is and the memory. The key wear points on used laptop are often the hard drive, which is susceptible to drops or bumps, as well as the memory. Ask if either the hard drive or the memory has been replaced.

Another item to ask about is about the screen. The screen on laptops can be very sensitive to heat, moisture and physical wear. Find out if the screen has been replaced or repaired. If it's been repaired, you may want to consider a warranty to cover future possible breakdowns.

Ask what kind of operating system is included. Operating systems are easy to install over the prior operating system, so if it's an older operating system version, be sure to ask if you are getting the serial numbers and CDs to allow you to purchase an upgrade if you choose.

Often a refurbished laptop has a manufacturer's warranty available for purchase along with your system. If you want a warranty, be sure to ask what is available, and how long you have to buy the warranty after purchase of the system.

Finally, make sure you feel comfortable with the dealer selling you the PC. Does the vendor answer your questions fully and promptly? Do they have a return period? Can you return for any reason without a restocking fee (which can run to 15% of the price)? Do they have a support department you can contact in case something goes wrong with your system? Where are they located (preferably the US)? And do they have happy client testimonials?

With so many laptop systems on the market, you have options besides buying a new system. Keeping these points in mind while you shop can help you find a great deal on a refurbished laptop.

Laptop computers are more expensive than desktop computers, but despite what you might think, you can still buy a cheap laptop computer that has all of the specs you are looking for. Don't think of them as cheap laptops, think instead that you will be getting a good deal on a laptop! Here's how to search for discount prices and find a cheap laptop or notebook computer that meets your needs.

The first way to save on a laptop is to skip brand names. Trying to find a Sony or Dell that is new and inexpensive isn't impossible, but you can buy more firepower in a laptop if you don't get hung up on labels. You can buy other names or even "no name" laptops which contain the same component parts by manufacturers such as Intel, Athlon, Sony, Seagate, and other major companies. The internal quality can be just the same. Buying a lesser known or unknown brand will take a little more investigation on your part to find out what is included inside. Make sure you get a generous return policy too, in case the system just doesn't measure up.

Speaking of no name laptops, ever though you might build your own laptop? Some resellers specialize in helping you purchase all the components you want, and do the assembly for you. This is a good way to buy a cheap laptop but get the right parts for your needs.

Another way to find a cheap laptop is to go for not-quite-new systems. Look for dealers that sell open box, reconditioned or refurbished laptops. You might even find that brand name you want! These computers have been cleaned up, possibly upgraded, and made to look like new. Warranties may even be available. Don't confuse these with used laptops, since used laptops are generally being sold by their user in an "as-is" condition, not by a computer dealer who has checked the system and repaired or upgraded where needed.

Last of course is buying a used computer system. These can be tricky if don't really know your way around a laptop system. Buying a used system is like buying a used car: Let the buy beware. You have to ask all the right questions about how the system has been sued, what components are included, what condition they are in, and whether anything is malfunctioning. Find out if there is a transferable warranty in place. You can definitely find a used cheap laptop, but you may be buying someone else's problem too. Make sure you know what you're doing. As a last resort, be sure you purchase using PayPal or some other service that offers buyer protection.

With a little leg work, it's possible to find a cheap laptop with good components, warranty in place, and maybe even find a brand name computer, that can meet your needs and still not drain your wallet too much.
